Robert Peston
Robert Peston is ITV's Political Editor and the host of their political interview program, "Peston," where he provides comprehensive coverage of Westminster's latest developments and interviews prominent national and international figures. He also co-hosts the podcast "The Rest Is Money" with Steph McGovern, where they simplify economic concepts and discuss key financial issues.
About Robert Peston
Before joining ITV, Robert was the BBC’s Economics Editor, where he brought clarity to complex economic stories, explaining the effects of domestic, European, and global economic changes. As the BBC’s Business Editor, he broke several major stories about the global financial landscape, including the crises at Northern Rock and RBS, the emergency rescue of HBOS, and the broader credit crunch, bailouts, and austerity measures.
Robert’s career spans significant roles at leading publications. He was the City and Assistant Editor of the Sunday Telegraph, managing the business and money sections, and served as the Financial Editor of the Financial Times. At the FT, he was a member of the editorial board and held positions such as Political Editor, Banking Editor, and founder of the investigations unit.
In addition to his television work, Robert is an acclaimed online journalist and author of several critically praised books. His titles include “How Do We Fix This Mess?” and “Who Runs Britain?” which delve into the causes and long-term impacts of the 2008 financial crisis. In “Bust?” he examines the current state of the economy, society, and politics, stressing the need for institutional reform and the potential of AI. His book “WTF?” has been described by the Financial Times as “mandatory reading,” offering a broader analysis of global issues and suggesting solutions for politics, society, and business.
Robert has won over thirty journalism awards, including the Royal Television Society’s Journalist of the Year, Specialist Journalist of the Year, and Scoop of the Year (twice). He has also received the Wincott Prize for financial journalism and the Broadcasting Press Guild’s award for Best Performer in a Non-Acting Role. He has created and presented several documentaries and factual series, including films on China’s economic boom and potential bust, the EU referendum, the financial crisis, and the popular series “Robert Peston Goes Shopping.” Outside of journalism, Robert founded the education charity Speakers for Schools and serves as Vice President of Hospice UK.
