About Dr. Kerry McInerney

Dr. Kerry McInerney, formerly known as Kerry Mackereth, holds the title of AHRC/BBC New Generation Thinker and is listed among the 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for 2022. She is also recognized as one of Computing’s Rising Stars 30 and a nominee for several prestigious awards, including the Champion of Women – Champion of Innovation (2022), Women of the Future – Technology and Digital (2022), and Women in Tech Excellence – Rising Star (2022).

At the University of Cambridge, Dr. McInerney serves as a Research Fellow at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence. Here, she is leading  a €1.9 million AI ethics initiative. She also co-directs the Global Politics of AI project, delving into AI’s influence on global politics, particularly examining the language of a US-China AI arms race.

Her expertise covers a broad spectrum of subjects, ranging from feminism and technology; anti-Asian racism and AI, AI hiring software; diversity, equality and inclusion in the tech industry; race and racism in higher education; and why representations of AI scientists on screen matter.

As a prominent figure in the podcasting world, Dr. McInerney co-hosts The Good Robot podcast, boasting over 40,000 downloads. The podcast presents a global platform for discussions on feminism and technology. Her insights have also been featured on notable platforms like BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking, The Guilty Feminist, BBC Cambridgeshire, the Colin McEnroe show, and the Radical AI Podcast.

Dr. McInerney’s research, especially on AI-powered hiring, has garnered international attention, covered by media giants including BBC, Forbes, the Register, and the Daily Mail. She has appeared on popular shows such as BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking, The Guilty Feminist, BBC Cambridgeshire, the Colin McEnroe show, and the Radical AI Podcast.

In the literary domain, she is co-editor of the “Feminist AI” collection with Oxford University Press and the co-editor of “The Good Robot: Feminist Voices on the Future of Technology” with Bloomsbury Academic. Additionally, she is collaborating with Dr. Eleanor Drage on a book titled “Reprogram: Why Big Tech is Broken and How Feminism Can Transform It.”
