Richard is a successful author, filmmaker and broadcaster. His film Lions, Bones & Bullets won major international awards. A globally recognised conservationist, he has campaigned for sharks, lions, rhinos, elephants and other threatened species for over 30 years. An accomplished entertaining speaker mostly resident in Africa he is available in the U.K. May, June, July and August for clubs, societies, schools, after dinner, corporate and keynote engagements.
About Richard Peirce
Richard Peirce is a name synonymous with shark conservation and wildlife preservation, carries a lifelong passion for wildlife, particularly sharks. His fascination has led him to encounters with nature’s most iconic animals across the globe. As a committed wildlife conservationist, Richard dedicates his time to various projects aimed at the conservation of specific species. A portion of the royalties from his books supports notable organisations like Born Free, Tusk, The Sava Vet Rhino Fund, and Shark Watchers.
In 1999, Richard founded Richard Peirce Shark Conservation, which evolved into the Shark Conservation Society in 2008. Under his leadership as the main expedition organiser and chairman until 2015, the society saw significant success. His pioneering efforts in 2006 to start cage diving with blue sharks in the UK marked a new chapter in eco-tourism and shark conservation. Richard’s advocacy for shark eco-tourism has been unwavering, highlighted by his long-term involvement with The Shark Trust, where he served as chairman for twelve years until 2015, and to which he returned as a board of trustees member in late 2016.
Richard’s interest in sharks extends particularly to British seas. His sponsorship of the Shark Angling Club in Looe in 1999 to restart shark tagging, and his initiative to launch the first shark cage diving in Britain in 2006, underscore his dedication. His book ‘Sharks in British Seas‘, published in 2008 and reprinted in 2011 due to popular demand, along with his films ‘Sharks in British Seas’ and ‘Porbeagles in Peril’, have been widely acclaimed. Furthermore, Richard is renowned for his research into possible Great White shark encounters in British waters, culminating in the publication of ‘The UK Great White Shark Enigma’ in August 2016.
Beyond sharks, Richard’s passion for African mega fauna has driven many of his projects, with a focus on raising awareness for the plight of rhinos, elephants, lions, and pangolins, among others. His extensive publishing record includes ‘The Poacher’s Moon’, a book on rhino poaching first published in 2013, followed by a series of impactful works including ‘Cuddle Me, Kill Me’, an expose on South Africa’s captive lion breeding industry, and ‘Orca’, a narrative on the clash between Orcas and Great White sharks. His latest work, ‘Pangolins: Scales of Injustice’, set to be published in 2021, highlights the plight of pangolins in the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Richard’s contributions to wildlife conservation are not just limited to his writings. His upcoming investigative documentary film, ‘Lions, Bones & Bullets’, slated for release in 2020, is eagerly anticipated.
