About Tessa Sanderson CBE

In 1984 at the Los Angeles Olympic Games, Tessa Sanderson CBE made history by winning Gold in the Women’s Javelin, and remains the only British woman ever to win an Olympic throwing gold medal. She competed in six consecutive Olympic Games between 1976 and 1996, also securing three Commonwealth Gold medals and a World Cup Gold.

Over a 26-year international career, Tessa was voted Sports Personality of the Year and Athlete of the Year three times by the Athletics Writers’ Association. Following her retirement in 1997, she built a successful media career with the BBC, ITV, Sky and Talksport, alongside appearances on major television programmes.

Tessa has been awarded an MBE, OBE and CBE for her services to sport and charity, and continues to support numerous charitable organisations. With experience spanning elite performance, resilience, media and leadership, she is an inspiring and authoritative keynote speaker.
