Nicolas Hamilton

Nicolas Hamilton is a disability ambassador and hugely inspiring speaker. He is also a prime example of ‘you can do anything if you put your mind to it’. About Nicolas Hamilton

Nicolas Hamilton travels the globe sharing his motivating and inspiring story of true grit and determination. His message can be translated to all walks of life. Nicolas believes that there is no obstacle ‘too big’ to overcome and after you hear his wonderful story we can guarantee the audience will be both moved, humbled and motivated.

Biography

Nicolas Hamilton was introduced to motorsport after supporting his brother, Lewis, near enough every weekend throughout his childhood. He wanted to achieve something that deemed to be impossible, to become a racing driver in his own right and prove the doctors wrong.

Continuously striving to overcome the pain, strains and endless struggles that are a result of his disability, Nicolas main focus was to make sure that his life was not ruined by his condition. Nicolas knows he is also very lucky with what he has, seeing that there are many other people with Cerebral Palsy who are affected much more severely.

After years of hard work and dedication in overcoming his condition; from being wheelchair bound to walking unaided by the age of 17, Nicolas parents agreed to his request to be allowed to race. And Nicolas was given the opportunity to race in the highly competitive Renault Clio Cup series. This naturally was a baptism of fire given that this was Nicolas first attempt at motorsport, but he handled the challenges presented to him with the same dedication and determination that his disability presents to him on a daily basis.

Nic’s impressive focus and passion lead him to be invited to take part in a BBC ‘Fly on the wall’ documentary, which followed his first full season in motorsport. Viewing figures reached 40 million worldwide and Nicolas’ story inspired so many disabled and able-bodied people purely by him achieving his goals.

Nicolas did not stop there though and in 2015, he created history and became the first disabled athlete ever to compete in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).

"Nic was superb: most people’s highlight of the day and certainly mine. He was engaging, inspiring and highly amusing. Great approach to the topic of his ability, disability and passion for driving. It was great. At one point during Nic’s speech a colleague nudged me and said, ‘look behind you’: I turned and saw every colleague – over 1,000 – absolutely glued to Nic and hanging on his every word. He was exceptional."
