About Lord Robert Winston
Lord Professor Robert Winston is a doctor, scientist, broadcaster and life peer whose work has had a profound impact on medicine, education and public understanding of science. Widely regarded as a leading authority on reproductive medicine, he is Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies and Professor of Science and Society at Imperial College London, where his research has delivered significant advances in IVF, genetics and endocrinology.
A pioneer in genetic screening and gynaecological surgery, Lord Winston has published more than 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals and holds 26 patents. His commitment to science education has seen him inspire generations through television, public lectures and the Reach Out Laboratory at Imperial College, which gives young people hands-on experience of scientific discovery.
Beyond academia, Lord Winston is one of Britain’s most recognisable science communicators. He has written and presented acclaimed programmes including The Human Body, Child of Our Time, The Secret Life of Twins and Superhuman, earning a BAFTA and widespread recognition for making complex scientific subjects accessible to mainstream audiences.
A member of the House of Lords since 1995, he speaks regularly on science, education, medicine and ethics, and was named Peer of the Year in 2008. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Academy of Engineering, and has received numerous honours including the Royal Society’s Faraday Medal.
