About Justin Webb
Before joining Today, Justin served as the BBC North America Editor. During his time in the US, he covered the landmark 2008 Presidential election, chronicling Barack Obama’s historic ascent to the presidency. His tenure in Washington saw him reporting on key events from Capitol Hill to Wall Street, becoming a senior member of the White House press corps and the first British journalist to secure a comprehensive TV interview with President Obama.
Justin’s career began much earlier, with significant international reporting assignments. As the BBC’s European Correspondent in Brussels, he reported on elections in Australia, a coup in the Maldives, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and Mafia trials in Italy. He has also anchored major programmes like Breakfast News and The World Tonight, showcasing his versatility and depth as a journalist.
Now, on the Today programme, Justin interrogates British politicians and newsmakers with a blend of rigour and wit. He also co-hosts the popular Americast podcast, providing both serious analysis and light-hearted commentary on American affairs. His ability to cut through the noise and present clear, compelling narratives makes him a standout figure in broadcast journalism.
In addition to his broadcasting work, Justin is a sought-after conference chair and awards host, known for his confident presence and insightful commentary on topics ranging from Brexit to Trump. His after-dinner speeches draw from his extensive career and his books, “Have A Nice Day” and “Notes on Them and Us,” where he explores the nuances of American life and politics. His memoir, “The Gift of a Radio,” offers a captivating look at the 1970s, earning acclaim for its engaging storytelling.
