Christian Howes rose to fame after he was ‘spotted’ when observing the social media habits of viewers of the reality TV show Big Brother.
Speaking about his findings on Twitter and Facebook, he suddenly landed himself a weekly spot on BB’s Bit on the Side. Christian presented his findings to millions of viewers who were chattering about the show but had no idea how their conversations were impacting social media. Moving on from Big Brother his insight and expertise saw him feature on BBC1’s National Lottery show, This Morning, GMB, Channel 4’s alternative election, The Clare Balding show and BT Sport.
Christian’s career highlights include working on the launch of the PS3 and using the data and insight to ensure the content going to the 148 million Playstation customers was relevant.
Christian also built a social test and learn methodology which enabled brands to test multiple types of messaging and products to different audiences to understand what the audience preferred. This insight was then rolled into communications and even product design.
While at Accenture Interactive, Christian Howes was the go-to digital innovation brain for HSBC global team.
Christian built a connector which enabled Lloyds banking group to join the transactional and behavioural data sets, and which ultimately made Lloyds marketing smarter and data driven.
Christian also used vast amounts of social media data to accurately predict the results of the 2015 General election, 2016 Brexit vote, 2017 Dutch election and the 2017 US presidential election, often against the analysis of the media.
Christian’s work also has a serious side. He used insights from social media data to accurately predict Brexit and Trump’s successes. He is passionate about new data capture methods.
Christian also is co-owner of a format and ideas company that specialises in creating data based TV formats.
