About Carrie Gracie

Carrie Gracie is one of the UK’s most respected journalists, renowned for her expertise on China’s global influence and its profound impact on politics, trade, and the future of international relations. With over three decades at the BBC, including her role as China Editor, Carrie has delivered insightful reporting from the frontline of some of the world’s most significant events.

Fluent in Mandarin and deeply connected to China’s culture and history, Carrie spent much of the 1990s reporting from Beijing, where she served as the BBC’s bureau chief. Her in-depth coverage of China’s rise has earned her numerous accolades, including a Peabody Award and an Emmy. She also provided expert commentary during the 2008 Beijing Olympics and has produced a series of acclaimed documentaries exploring modern China.

Back in the UK, Carrie became a trusted voice as a senior BBC News anchor and host of flagship programmes such as The Interview, Dateline London, and PM on BBC Radio 4. She has reported on major global stories from 9/11 and the Iraq War to the MPs’ expenses scandal, always bringing clarity, humanity, and a global perspective to her reporting.

In 2018, Carrie made headlines herself when she resigned as BBC China Editor in a high-profile stand against gender pay inequality. Her campaign led to a landmark public apology and back-pay from the BBC, which she donated to the Fawcett Society to support women facing pay discrimination. Her bestselling book, Equal: A Story of Women, Men and Money, shares her personal journey and the fight for workplace equality.

Today, Carrie is a highly sought-after keynote speaker, offering audiences a unique blend of intellectual depth, personal experience, and storytelling drawn from her life as a foreign correspondent and advocate for change. She speaks on topics including China’s global rise, international relations, journalism under pressure, and gender equality.
