Benjamin Alexander
In an incredible journey of perseverance and determination, Benjamin became Jamaica's first-ever Winter Olympic Alpine ski racer in 2022. Venturing into the world of skiing at an age when most are retiring from the sport, Benjamin found his ski legs at thirty-two, only six years prior to etching his name in the annals of Olympic history.
About Benjamin Alexander
Benjamin’s story is a testament to the power of saying ‘yes’ when the world says ‘no’. His steadfast resilience saw him training through a global pandemic, overcoming adversity, and ultimately securing a spot on the world’s grandest sporting stage.
His first encounter with skiing occurred as a pure coincidence during his earlier career as a globally acclaimed DJ for the renowned Burning Man brand, Robot Heart. Captivated by the spectacle of skiers at a heli-ski event, Benjamin felt a pull towards the sport that he could not ignore. Hanging up his DJ headphones, he turned his focus to carving his way through snow-covered mountains.
Faced with the world in lockdown, ski resorts closing, and borders sealed, Benjamin displayed remarkable agility in his pursuit of excellence. He found innovative ways to continue his training, eventually leading him to an unforgettable performance at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Benjamin is not only a trailblazer on the slopes but also an advocate for diversity in sports. He uses his influential position to support and inspire upcoming athletes, promoting the joy of winter sports far beyond traditional boundaries, particularly among communities of diverse backgrounds.
Benjamin’s journey, complete with soaring highs and challenging lows, offers a truly motivational tale. His story is one of undying determination, resilience in the face of adversity, and a continuous commitment to adaptability and growth.
Benjamin Alexander speaks on topics such as Goalsetting, Motivation, Mindset, and Diversity & Inclusion. Above all he hopes that reaching the Olympics will wave the flag for diversity in winter sports and outdoor pursuits. Moreover, he wants the fact that he found a love for skiing so late in life to prove determination and perseverance can pay off. He wants to inspire everyone who might feel like they have “missed the boat” on any activity or aspect of their life.
