About Lord Digby Jones

Lord Digby Jones is one of the UK’s most respected business voices, known for his forthright views and commercial insight. A former Director-General of the CBI and Minister of State for UK Trade & Investment, he has spent his career championing British business at home and abroad.

After graduating from University College London, Digby spent 20 years with Birmingham law firm Edge & Ellison, rising from articled clerk to Senior Partner. During this time he gained extensive experience in leadership, business growth and people management, developing a strong belief in the role of enterprise as a force for positive social and economic change.

In 2000, he became Director-General of the CBI, where he spent six and a half years representing British business and becoming a familiar media figure through his candid and energetic commentary on economic and political issues. Knighted for services to business in 2005, he later served as Minister of State for UK Trade & Investment and was appointed a life peer as Lord Jones of Birmingham.

Today, Lord Digby Jones advises a range of leading organisations and serves in a number of board and ambassadorial roles across industry. Combining real-world business experience with humour, honesty and sharp observation, he is a compelling speaker on leadership, global trade, economic trends and the future of business.
