Shanel Drewe
Shanel Drewe is a British racing driver and performance instructor who made a name for herself in the male-dominated world of motorsport. Her passion for racing began in her early teens when she volunteered with racing teams, assisting with everything from washing wheels to mechanical repairs. With no prior experience or financial backing, she and her father set themselves the challenge of completing just one race - a goal that quickly expanded into six race weekends in the Junior Saloon Car Championship.
About Shanel Drewe
Recognised for her raw talent, Shanel secured a place in the Michelin Clio Championship, where she defied expectations as the youngest, least experienced, and only female competitor on the grid. She took the championship battle down to the final corner of the last race, finishing as vice-champion.
Shanel later competed in the Mini Cooper Challenge, supporting the TOCA British Touring Car Championship, as she worked towards her ambition of racing in British GTs, Le Mans, or the British Touring Car Championship.
Beyond racing, Shanel built a successful career as a performance driving instructor. In 2019, she became one of the youngest dedicated female ARDS Race Instructors in the UK and established Shanel Drewe Racing. She worked as an instructor at Thruxton Race Circuit alongside motorsport legends like Tiff Needell and took on a role as a Performance Instructor for Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey, working with a growing number of manufacturers.
Passionate about making motorsport more accessible, Shanel was also a proud Brand Ambassador for The Community Driving School, a not-for-profit initiative that provided free driving lessons, confidence-building, and career support for individuals referred by charities across the UK. Coming from a background without the financial privileges of many of her competitors, she was determined to help others break into the industry and inspire the next generation of female drivers.
Her story is one of perseverance, passion, and a relentless drive to challenge the status quo in motorsport.
