Roger Kneebone
Roger Kneebone is a Professor of Surgical Education at Imperial College London, leading research in engagement and simulation science. A former surgeon and GP, he integrates insights from crafts, performance, and arts into medical training. Author of Expert (2021), he hosts the Countercurrent podcast and directs SHARP, using arts to tackle knife violence.
About Lindsay Herbert
Roger Kneebone is Professor of Surgical Education and Engagement Science at Imperial College London. He jointly leads the Centre for Engagement and Simulation Science and the Centre for Performance Science at Imperial College.
Roger’s interdisciplinary research combines his background as a surgeon and general practitioner with insights from craftspeople, performers, and artists to enhance medical training and practice. He is the author of “Expert: Understanding the Path to Mastery”, published in 2021. Roger hosts a fortnightly podcast called “Countercurrent”, featuring discussions with experts from various fields. He was named the first Honorary Fellow of the City & Guilds London Art School in 2017 and became the 14th Professor of Anatomy at the Royal Academy of Arts in 2019.
Roger is also a member of the Art Workers’ Guild and directs the SHARP project, which uses simulation and arts to reduce the impact of knife violence on young people. He frequently speaks at conferences and events, advocating for the integration of arts and sciences in education and professional development.
