Jenny Lockyer
Jenny Lockyer is an actor, playwright, comedian and creative workshop facilitator in the possession of some extremely funny, original songs (accompanying herself on guitar) and currently touring two one-woman shows. Jenny discovered the world of music hall in her late teens and it was this extraordinary mixture of storytelling and song as well as the comic genius of Joyce Grenfell and Victoria Wood that set Jenny on the road to creating her own musical comedy. Her songs are witty and sharp, full of bizarre characters and great lyrics.
About Jenny Lockyer
Since 2003, Jenny has been performing professionally in all kinds of venues to all sorts of audiences and to all ages across the country. Theatres, music halls and radio, living rooms, school assemblies, arts and comedy festivals, comedy and variety nights and even a queue at the local chemist’s. She has supported comedians such as Dylan Moran, Shazia Mirza, Tim Vine, Arthur Smith, Sara Pascoe and has headlined many shows herself.
Influences include Victoria Wood, Noël Coward, Marie Lloyd, Joyce Grenfell, Tommy Cooper and the wonderful Morecambe and Wise. She is as comfortable performing to family audiences as she is to adults.

Putting on a show
This is a talk where Jenny explores the exciting and challenging creative process of making and putting on a show. As a self employed solo artist, working on her own has had its ups and downs. Over the years that Jenny has been performing professionally, she’s had to wear many hats to get things done. Research, script writing, creating songs and characters are key but scheduling, producing and marketing are also very much part of the process. The end performance is just one element of ‘the work’ and some of these elements don’t come naturally! Jenny has often felt swamped, overwhelmed and ultimately exhausted by the amount of STUFF that needs doing. There have been times when it has seemed almost impossible to make anything happen but recently the way Jenny works has been changing and this talk, as well as providing an insight into a creative process, is a reflection on a realisation that doing things solo doesn’t mean you have to be alone. 1hr (available autumn 2024 onwards)
