About Ed Balls
Before entering Parliament, Ed worked as Chief Economic Adviser to the UK Treasury, where he played a central role in UK economic policy and international financial discussions, including serving as Chair of the IMFC Deputies and UK G20 Deputy. During his political career he served as Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Minister for Financial Services, and Shadow Chancellor, working at the heart of government during periods of major economic and political change.
Alongside his political and economic career, Ed has become one of the UK’s most recognisable broadcasters and commentators. He is a regular presenter on ITV’s Good Morning Britain and co-hosts the popular podcast Political Currency alongside George Osborne. He has also fronted several acclaimed BBC documentaries including Inside the Care Crisis with Ed Balls, Travels in Trumpland with Ed Balls and Travels in Euroland with Ed Balls, exploring politics, economics and social issues both in the UK and internationally.
An accomplished author, Ed’s books Speaking Out: Lessons in Life and Politics and Appetite: A Memoir in Recipes of Family and Food both became Sunday Times bestsellers. He is also Professor of Political Economy at King’s College London, a Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School and co-Chair of the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation.
