About Ben McBean

When former Royal Marine Ben McBean stepped on a Taliban landmine in Afghanistan in 2008, he was not expected to survive. But Ben chose to defy expectations. Determined not to let losing an arm and a leg define his life, just 12 months later, he completed his first London Marathon.

Now a hugely inspiring and motivating speaker, Ben shares the mindset that enabled him to rebuild after catastrophic injury. Through powerful personal stories, he explores resilience, perspective and determination in the face of life’s toughest challenges.

Equally impactful with corporate and school audiences, Ben encourages people to believe in themselves, support others and never let adversity limit their potential.

A TV natural Ben is a regular media commentator and recently presented For Crown & Country for ITVX.  He also presented a strand for the BBC’s The One Show and featured in the documentary `War Torn Warriors` during which he overcame massive hurdles to trek to Everest Base Camp.

Forever on the lookout for a challenge, he has undertaken several of them for charity including two London Marathons, the UK’s Three Peaks and he ran 32 miles in the shape of a Poppy to raise funds for the British Legion.

Speech Topics

The Power of Perspective

In this powerful and often humorous keynote, Ben shares the mindset that allowed him to rebuild his life after catastrophic injury. Through personal stories and lessons learned from recovery, he explores resilience, perspective and the power of determination when facing life’s toughest challenges.

Ben also offers a unique perspective on disability and inclusion. As a father of two young boys, he reflects on how children perceive disability with openness and curiosity, and what adults can learn from that honesty.

Inspiring, authentic and deeply human, Ben’s keynote reminds audiences that adversity is something everyone faces — but resilience, attitude and perspective determine how we overcome it.

For Schools “Still Me: Finding Strength When Life Changes”

In this inspiring talk, Ben shares his incredible journey of recovery and how he learned to face life’s biggest challenges with courage, humour and positivity.

Ben’s talks  cover themes including:

    • Resilience and overcoming adversity
    • Leadership under pressure
    • Mental strength and mindset

We truly are committed to fostering a culture of positive mindsets, particularly when faced with challenges and adversity, and I am certain that your extraordinary story will have motivated people to continue on this journey.  Personally, I have heard you share your story several times and I would listen to you again tomorrow; every time I hear it I am absorbed, humbled and inspired."

SME Banking Lloyds Banking Group

"Ben pretty much stole the show and was an absolute hit with all of us. His focus, commitment and drive inspired us all and I know a lot of the team are still talking about Ben. He was a superb addition to the night and made the whole evening memorable for all the right reasons. He also delivered a humorous story whilst remaining grounded and very humble."

Resource Solutions

"Ben shared his inspiring and motivational story at our largest event of the year. Delegates sat before him captivated by his genuine tale of triumph through the greatest of adversities. On the day, he took the time to learn about - and imbed himself with - our team and learn about what we do. He was able to adapt and tailor his message to suit the themes of the day. The standing ovation he received was testament to his message, his sincere delivery and his poignant reminder of the human experience."

National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers

"I just wanted to say thank you for recommending Ben. He was amazing and his story had such an impact on the audience. He was an absolute pleasure to deal with and his presentation had just the right mix warmth, humour, inspiration and motivation. An attendee called me this morning to say she used to moan to her husband about how hard it is caring for their adult son who has schizophrenia and how they never get to go away on their own. She said after listening to Ben, she has absolutely nothing to moan about ever again. So his impact is already being felt! Just one problem – how am I going to match this for next year’s event?"
