Biography

Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes was born in 1944 and educated at Eton. He served with the Royal Scots Greys for a time before joining the SAS.  Since 1969, when he led the British Expedition on the White Nile, Ranulph Fiennes has led over 22 major expeditions to remote parts of the world.

Described in 1984 as the ‘World’s Greatest Living Explorer’ by Guinness Book of Records, his expeditions around the world include Transglobe (the first surface journey around the world’s polar axis) in 1972-82; and leader of the Pentland South Pole Expedition (which achieved the first unsupported crossing of the Antarctic Continent and the longest unsupported polar journey in history) in 1992-93.  Sir Ranulph has, through his expeditions, raised large amounts for charities. He has led 32 major expeditions to remote parts of the world including both Poles.

In 2003, only 3½ months after suffering a massive heart attack and double bypass operation, he ran 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days.  In 2004 he came second in the International North Pole Marathon and, in 2005, he raised £2m through his ascent to within 300 metres of the Everest summit ridge for the British Heart Foundations new research MRI scanner.

In March 2007, he climbed the North Face of the Eiger and raised £1.8m for Marie Curie Cancer Care’s delivering Choice Programme. Also in 2007 he was the winner of ITV’s Greatest Britons 2007 Sport Award and in May 2008, Ranulph climbed Everest (Nepal-side) to within 400m from the summit. In May 2009 he successfully summited Everest, raising nearly £3m for Marie Curie Cancer Care. To date he has raised over £18.9 million for UK charities including Seeing is Believing.

In 2010 Sir Ranulph Fiennes was named as the UK’s top celebrity fundraiser by ‘Just Giving.’

Sir Ranulph’s books

Sir Ranulph has written 25 books including the UK bestseller (Times and Telegraph) ‘The Feather Men’ in 1991, and in 2003 the top selling biography (Times) of Captain Scott. His book ‘My Heroes’ was published in 2011.  By virtue of hard work, persistence, goal setting, detailed planning, Sir Ranulph has achieved an outstanding career as a writer and explorer.

Sir Ranulph’s presentation is an account of his life of adventure, told with a very self-deprecating sense of humour, and with many analogies that can be drawn between the characteristics needed both for the challenges Sir Ranulph has met on expeditions and for everyday business life.  For corporate clients he can emphasise the themes appropriate to the occasion, such as leadership, teamwork, goal setting, determination and self-belief.

Accenture

"Ran’s talk at the 100 Property Club Xmas Dinner on 11th December 2018. In my opinion, Sir Ranulph was the best speaker we have ever had. He was extremely entertaining and our guests only said glowing things about his talk. He was a complete professional on the night and was a pleasure to be with. I regretted only letting him talk for an hour as could have listened to him for much longer. I would happily recommend him."
