About Nick Owen

Nick Owen is one of the UK’s best-loved news presenters. Best known for co-hosting the breakfast television programme TV-am and presenting the BBC’s local news show Midlands Today.

Biography

Nick started his life as a newspaper reporter for the Doncaster Evening Post after gaining a degree in Classics at Leeds. He later spent five years as reporter/producer in BBC local radio before moving to Central in 1978 where he forged a partnership with Anne Diamond that led to the breakfast show, ‘TV AM.’

After four years of early mornings, Nick was lured away to become main presenter for ITV Sport. He did this for six years while anchoring the 1988 Olympics and the 1990 football World Cup. During this time he also worked as a regular reporter on ‘Wish You Were Here’.  He then went on to host the game shows, ‘Sporting Triangles’ and ‘Hitman’, as well as presenting all of ITV’s Royal Premieres between 1986 and 1992. Anne and Nick were reunited for BBC’s ‘Good Morning’ the same year and it ran for four years and six hundred shows.

Born in Berkhamsted, where his parents were both teachers. Nick had a passion for the countryside and Luton Town Football Club (he is Chairman of the supporters club!) His other achievements include the publication of his autobiography, ‘In the Time of Nick’ in 2004 and being awarded the Baird Medal by the Royal Television Society, Midlands, for a lifelong achievement in television in 2006. He currently presents the BBC programme ‘Midlands Today’.

Nick received the Baird Medal from the Royal Television Society for Services to Television and, in 2010, he was named Speaker of the Year by the National Association of Speakers Clubs.

Nick is very entertaining after-dinner speaker delivering humorous anecdotes from his career. He is also a very experienced conference facilitator and awards host. He is the ideal candidate when a ‘safe pair of hands’ are required.
