About Jon Kay

John Kay has reported on everything from the election of Donald Trump to the Somerset floods. From the disappearance of Madeleine McCann to Brexit and the Olympics, Jon has covered some of the biggest events of recent years as a senior news correspondent. He also hosted a star-studded dinner and auction for the Prince’s Trust, which raised almost a quarter of a million pounds.

Biography

Jon Kay regularly sits down on the famous BBC Breakfast sofa – presenting three hours of live television on BBC One with Naga Munchetty. Anything can happen on Breakfast. One minute Jon can be interviewing a Cabinet minister – the next minute he’s got a Rottweiler curling up on his lap. He’s not quite sure which of these scenarios is preferable…

Presenting BBC Breakfast means having to turn to any subject at a moment’s notice, whether it’s global breaking news or a big celebrity interview. Jon reacts quickly and calmly under pressure – dealing with unpredictable and constantly-changing running-orders.

While he has to be analytical and tough when he’s tackling politicians, Jon is also known for being sensitive, compassionate and empathetic when reporting from a tragedy like the Grenfell Tower fire or presenting a recent episode of Crimewatch for primetime BBC One, dealing with the effects of child-abuse.

Jon Kay loves working with people of all ages and backgrounds – and always tries to bring out the best in his interviewees, contributors and audiences. He recently discovered “Brenda from Bristol” – the unlikely star of the General Election! Jon is known for being warm, witty, relaxed and fun.

Over the last few years alone, Jon has worked all over the world. Broadcasting live from hurricanes in Central America, court cases in South Africa as well as red-carpet premieres in Los Angeles. He’s covered political events at both Downing Street and the White House. He even hosted the BBC’s coverage of the Titanic Centenary from a ship in the middle of the Atlantic.
