Helen Richardson-Walsh

Helen earned more than 290 international caps across her career and competed at five Olympic Games, establishing herself as one of Britain’s most accomplished hockey players. Alongside Olympic Gold in Rio, she also won Bronze at the London 2012 Olympic Games, three Commonwealth medals and Gold at the 2015 European Championships.

In 2016, Helen and her wife Kate Richardson-Walsh made history as the first married same-sex couple to win Olympic Gold for Team GB. Together they became important advocates for inclusion, diversity and equality in sport, helping inspire greater visibility for LGBTQ+ athletes and women’s sport more broadly.

Throughout her career, Helen faced significant challenges including multiple injuries, mental health struggles and England’s disappointing performance at the 2014 World Cup. Her experience rebuilding confidence and performance after setbacks now forms a central part of her keynote speaking work, where she shares honest insights into resilience, high-performance culture and sustaining wellbeing under pressure.

Alongside her sporting achievements, Helen holds a degree in Psychology and has continued her interest in performance and organisational behaviour through postgraduate study in Organisational Psychology. Since retiring from international hockey, she has remained involved in the sport while also working as an ambassador for organisations including UN Women UK and Access Sport.
