About Nick Bostrom

Nick was until recently a Professor at the University of Oxford, where he founded and led the Future of Humanity Institute from 2005 until its closure in 2024. He is now the Founder and Principal Researcher of the nonprofit Macrostrategy Research Initiative, focused on the big-picture challenges facing civilisation.

With an academic background spanning theoretical physics, computational neuroscience, artificial intelligence, logic and philosophy, Nick is one of the most-cited philosophers in the world. His research has pioneered many of the ideas that underpin modern thinking about the future, including existential risk, the simulation argument, the vulnerable world hypothesis, differential technological development, and the moral status of digital minds.

Nick is the author of more than 200 publications, including seminal works such as Anthropic Bias, Global Catastrophic Risks, Human Enhancement, and the landmark New York Times bestseller Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies. First published in 2014, Superintelligence helped ignite a global conversation around AI safety, governance and long-term impact that continues to influence policy and strategy today. His most recent book, Deep Utopia: Life and Meaning in a Solved World (2024), explores what purpose and meaning might look like in a future shaped by advanced technology.

Nick’s work has been translated into more than 30 languages, and he is a repeat main-stage TED speaker. He has twice been named to Foreign Policy’s Top 100 Global Thinkers list and was included in Prospect’s World Thinkers ranking, where he was the youngest person in the top 15.

As a speaker, Nick is valued for his intellectual depth, clarity and originality, helping senior audiences think rigorously about AI, risk and the future without hype or sensationalism. His keynotes are particularly suited to boards, policymakers, technology leaders and global conferences seeking long-term, strategic perspective on the most consequential issues of our time.
