About Andrew Marr

Andrew Marr is an esteemed figure in political journalism and as a commentator on global issues. Up until December 2021, he was the face of the weekly BBC programme ‘The Andrew Marr Show’ and the voice behind Radio 4’s ‘Start the Week’. Presently, he continues to engage audiences with his own shows on LBC and Classic FM, in addition to a podcast for the station’s owners, Global.

His career achievements include the editing of a major national newspaper, leading the BBC’s political reportage, and creating documentaries that explore political, economic, and cultural histories. Beyond his media presence, Marr is a prolific writer, authoring books that supplement his TV documentaries, venturing into the world of art through painting and drawing, and crafting political thrillers.

Marr’s journey in journalism began in the realm of print as a trainee and then as a junior business reporter at The Scotsman. By 1984, he made his way to London, first covering Parliament and then serving as Political Correspondent, before being part of the team that launched The Independent in 1986. Following a brief initial period with The Independent, Marr moved to The Economist, where he contributed to its political column and soon became its Political Editor in the same year. He returned to The Independent in 1992 as Political Editor and ascended to the position of Editor by 1996. From 1998, Marr expanded his influence by writing columns for the Daily Express and The Observer, and initiated his BBC career with the presentation of ‘The Day Britain Died’ in early 2000.

In May 2000, Marr was appointed as the BBC Political Editor, a prestigious role he fulfilled until after the 2005 general election. Subsequently, he took the helm of the BBC’s premier Sunday morning political program, initially named Sunday AM and later rebranded as The Andrew Marr Show. Marr’s portfolio also includes presenting several notable BBC documentary series, such as ‘A History of Modern Britain’, ‘The Making of Modern Britain’, ‘History of the World’, ‘The Diamond Queen’, and ‘Scotland and the Battle for Britain’, along with hosting Radio 4’s ‘Start the Week’ starting in 2002. Marr has made guest appearances as himself in episodes of Doctor Who and The Bodyguard.
