About Dermot Murnaghan

Having reported from many major historical scenes, Dermot is an expert in current affairs and can offer his audience a topical and current speech. He is an accomplished awards presenter and conference host, who brings a charismatic professionalism to win over a variety of audiences.

 

Biography

Dermot joined the BBC in 2003 after many years with ITN. During that time he fronted all ITV’s major bulletins, including News at Ten, and also presented Channel 4 News. Having presented BBC Breakfast on BBC1 for five years, he is now the face of ‘Sky News’, presenting on weekdays from 9am-1pm.  He also presents the ratings success ‘Eggheads’, a quiz show for BBC2, which recorded its ninth series in 2008. He also presents the spin-off shows ‘Celebrity Eggheads’ and ‘Are You An Egghead?’.

He presented the science show ‘Human Guinea Pig’ on Bravo, which saw the rugby star Gavin Henson take part in an experiment to withstand an electric current of 250,000 volts.  Dermot’s incisive interviewing style has been recognised by a number of awards, including the Royal Television Society’s Interviewer of The Year Award in 1999 for his interview with Peter Mandelson, which resulted in the latter’s resignation from the Cabinet.

Dermot is available for a range of corporate work. He has delighted a whole variety of clients, many of whom invite him back to host year after year. His numerous conference and after-dinner appearances have included engagements for The Police Federation, Eurostar, The Home Office, The Army Families Federation, Orange, European Study Tours, The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Which?, and Royal Mail.
