David McCandless is a London-based author, data-journalist and information designer, working across print, advertising, TV and web. His blog and best-selling books are dedicated to visualising ideas, issues, knowledge and data, and to discovering novel patterns and stories in the seas of data swamping and surrounding us.

David McCandless is a celebrated author, data-journalist, and information designer known for his innovative data visualisations. He merges data, design, and storytelling to create infographics that simplify complex data sets, revealing hidden patterns and insights. David’s belief that “data is not the new oil, but the new soil” highlights his approach to making data meaningful.
He gained fame with his blog and book “Information Is Beautiful” (2009), dedicated to visualizing knowledge and data. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Wellcome Trust gallery in London, and Tate Britain. David’s designs have appeared in over forty publications worldwide, including The Guardian and Wired.
Beginning his career in the late ’80s, David wrote for video games magazines and explored hacking and programming. For over 25 years, he has worked as a journalist, copywriter, web editor, creative director, and comedy writer.
In his speeches, David shows how to turn complex data into simple, beautiful diagrams, helping audiences understand and find meaning in numbers. His work in data journalism and information design has transformed how we interact with data.
He has worked as a creative consultant for Apple, Google, and Microsoft, spoken at TED Global and hundreds of international conferences. and taught his concept and story-driven approach to data-visualisation to teams at SalesForce, Twitter and others.
