Men’s Mental Health
This session answers two key questions: 1) Why are men and boys struggling? 2) What are we going to do about it? In answering these questions, the talk explores transformational topics such as; the testosterone crisis, fatherhood, psychological safety, allyship, the role of men’s communities, toxic masculinity (as a phrase, is it a wall-builder or bridge-builder?) and gender bias.
Domestic Abuse
This session draws on Andrew’s lived experience as a former victim of domestic abuse in his first marriage, as well as up-to-date research and answers key questions, such as: How do people fall into abusive relationships? What is life like caught in abuse? Why do people stay? What are the realities of gaslighting and parental alienation? How do we support colleagues who we suspect may be caught in abuse, but it doesn’t seem that they can see it? How do we spot the signs of an abusive relationship, so we can take action as early as possible?
Burnout
This session is about burnout: What is it? What are the myth? What are the signs and triggers? Once we’ve defined it, the next two key questions are: 1) How do we prevent burnout collectively and in the workplace? 2) What can we do as individuals to manage our own wellbeing? Drawing on lived experience and broader research, we will explore things like psychological safety (what it is, what the data says about it and how to create it) why hope is precious and fragile and how to communicate an effective message of hope which is inspiring, but which does not set people up to fail, the role of GRIT, how GRIT differs from resilience and how to develop GRIT, the language of elite sports professionals and how we can apply it when facing adversity, the power of marginal gains.
Community and loneliness
Drawing on research and Andrew’s lived-experience of both chronic loneliness and then later on in his career, third sector community building, we’ll explore the role of community in safeguarding positive wellbeing, understanding: why community is a vital component in managing our wellbeing and driving innovation, why community spirit is struggling in 2025, the danger of cliques and why they form, how to become better community builders as individuals and how to build dynamic communities within the workplace.
