About Matt Lindley
Before joining the RAF, Matt worked at Ford supporting culture and management strategy change. He then spent more than a decade in the military, flying fast jets before specialising in VIP transport and pilot training. Following his RAF career, he joined British Airways, flying the iconic Boeing 747 on long-haul routes across North America and Asia.
Matt combines these experiences to demonstrate how organisations can foster trust, encourage accountability and create environments where people feel confident to speak up, challenge constructively and learn from mistakes. His work on human factors and error management has also seen him collaborate extensively with both the NHS and private sector organisations.
Alongside his expertise in leadership and culture, Matt brings a unique personal perspective on inclusion. As a gay man serving in the armed forces during a period of significant cultural change, he experienced first-hand the impact that organisational culture and leadership can have on individual performance. His story highlights how inclusive leadership, empathy and psychological safety enable people to perform at their very best.
Insightful, engaging and highly relatable, Matt delivers practical takeaways that resonate with leaders and teams alike, helping organisations strengthen culture, improve communication and unlock higher levels of performance.

Diversity and Inclusion
As a diversity and inclusion speaker, Matt Lindley talks candidly about being one of the first openly gay pilots in the Armed Forces. Listen to his journey of having a childhood dream to fly, almost crushed by a ban on gay serving personnel in the Forces. Matt describes how he consciously suppressed his sexuality and joined an organisation, knowing that being ‘out’ would have resulted in a possible prison sentence.
But this is not just another ‘coming out story’. Instead, Matt uses his experience, to highlight the benefits of positive culture change and transformational leadership to the well-being of employees and the productivity of an organisation.
