About Rt Hon James Cleverly MP

James began his career in the military, training at Sandhurst before an injury cut his time short. Undeterred, he continued serving in the Territorial Army, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, where he played a crucial role in helping Reserve Forces reintegrate into civilian careers post-deployment. He later transitioned into business, building a successful career in magazine and digital publishing before launching his own company.

His political career began in the London Assembly, where he took on senior leadership roles, including Chair of the London Fire Authority, overseeing strategy, budgets, and operational performance. His ability to lead under pressure saw him rise rapidly through the ranks of national government.

As Home Secretary, James was responsible for some of the UK’s most pressing security, policing, and immigration matters. Later, as Foreign Secretary, he played a key diplomatic role during defining global moments, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Sudanese civil war, the Israel-Hamas conflict, and the evolving UK-EU relationship. He also served as Education Secretary and co-chaired the Conservative Party’s 2019 General Election campaign, shaping political strategy at the highest level.

James is an engaging speaker, offering firsthand perspectives on political risk, global affairs, and leadership in high-pressure environments. Drawing on his extensive experience across military, business, and government sectors, he provides sharp, thought-provoking insights into resilience, decision-making, and navigating an unpredictable world.
