Maggie captivated audiences with “Do We Really Need Satellites?” and has made numerous appearances on shows like The One Show, Sky One’s Ducks Quack Don’t Echo, and Channel 4’s I Literally Just Told You. Currently, she presents the new series of Sky at Night on BBC 4 and Mini Stargazing for Cbeebies. Despite an unsettled childhood and being diagnosed with dyslexia, Maggie’s fascination with space, inspired by shows like the Clangers and Star Trek, propelled her to overcome significant challenges. With the support of her father and her determination, she pursued her dreams, ultimately earning a degree in Physics and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College. Throughout her career, she has developed innovative instruments, from handheld land mine detectors to optical subsystems for the James Webb Space Telescope.

She was featured on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in 2010 and received an MBE in 2009. Recently, she was honored with the 2019 Woman of the Year award for innovation and was made a Dame of the British Empire in 2024.

At Astrium Ltd, Maggie leads the optical instrumentation group, managing projects that develop satellite sub-systems to monitor climate variables for the European Space Agency’s Living Planet Programme. She also holds a Science in Society Fellowship from the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) at University College London (UCL), allowing her to engage the public with her scientific work.

Maggie founded Science Innovation Ltd to further her mission of spreading a love for science. Through this company, she has conducted “Tours of the Universe” and other public engagement activities, reaching over 500,000 people worldwide, including 350,000 UK school children. She produced the film “Space in the UK,” where she takes viewers on a journey to Mars, blending education with entertainment.
