About John Taylor

John Taylor is a legendary Welsh rugby flanker, celebrated for his 26 caps for Wales, 4 caps for the British & Irish Lions, and his iconic last-minute, left-footed conversion against Scotland in 1971 – famously described as “the greatest conversion since St Paul”. A cornerstone of the Welsh team that claimed the Grand Slam that year, John also captained London Welsh during their golden era and remains one of the sport’s most respected figures.

Following his retirement in 1978, John forged a highly successful career in journalism and broadcasting. He spent 16 years as Rugby Correspondent for The Mail on Sunday after starting at the Sunday Telegraph, and went on to become ITV’s Chief Rugby Commentator. His commentary has been the soundtrack to some of the game’s greatest moments, including England’s World Cup victory in 2003, as well as four Rugby World Cups and numerous international fixtures.

John’s broadcasting career extends beyond rugby, having commentated on gymnastics and volleyball at four Olympic Games and fronted acclaimed TV series such as Survival of the Fittest and Trailblazers. He is also the voice behind the award-winning documentary Living with Lions, which captured the British & Irish Lions’ historic 1997 triumph in South Africa.

Voted Wales’ greatest ever Number 7, John Taylor is a captivating speaker who combines fascinating anecdotes from his playing days with insights into leadership, resilience, and teamwork, drawn from decades at the pinnacle of international sport.
