About Annie Vernon
Competing in one of the most demanding sporting environments in the world, Annie’s approach is rooted in the belief that values and motivation drive performance. She speaks candidly about rebuilding her confidence after a devastating silver medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, using that experience to develop a stronger sense of self and a renewed focus on excellence. Her story inspires audiences to cope with disappointment, maximise their potential, and support the success of those around them.
Annie discovered rowing as a teenager before going on to study at Cambridge University, where she was immersed in one of the UK’s most competitive rowing cultures. From there, she progressed into the British Rowing Team, rising rapidly despite being one of the smallest and least experienced squad members.
In 2007, Annie became a World Champion, setting the stage for Beijing 2008, where her crew narrowly missed Olympic gold, finishing second after leading until the final stages. The emotional impact of that race was broadcast nationwide and sparked intense public debate — a defining moment that shaped her future approach to sport and life.
Determined to grow from that setback, Annie returned for the London 2012 Olympiad with renewed purpose. After further World Championship success in 2010, she overcame serious illness and injury to earn her place in the women’s eight, finishing fifth at her final Olympic Games.
Since retiring from elite sport, Annie has built a successful career in journalism and broadcasting. She was part of the BBC commentary team for the inaugural Women’s Boat Race in 2015 and is a regular contributor to The Times, known for communicating the highs, lows and humour of elite sport with clarity and warmth.
Alongside her media work, Annie delivers impactful talks for corporate audiences, including major law firms and financial institutions, addressing performance under pressure, diversity and inclusion, goal setting, and mental resilience. Her speeches empower individuals and teams to persist through adversity — physically, psychologically and professionally.
With her authenticity, intelligence and powerful personal story, Annie Vernon is an outstanding keynote speaker for organisations seeking to build resilient, motivated and high-performing teams.

Client Feedback
"Your talk at Notworking Networking in Taunton was amazing. No slides needed, just a great story of how you achieved so much in the world of rowing. What stood out is how you can then tie this into business and give people an insight into what determination and dedication really is."
