World Meditation Day

World Meditation Day

Unwind and Relax on World Meditation Day which takes place 21st of May 2021. It’s something so, so needed by most of us.  Furthermore, it rams home a long-established fact that we need to help ourselves rest and recoup from our busy lives. Furthermore, we need to take a break from our phones, tablets, boxsets. We need to maintain our wellbeing and mental health.

World Meditation Day highlights it’s time to take a tiny step away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  Even if it is for a few minutes, a snatched half hour or wonder of wonders, and sadly in my dreams, a whole day off to think about yourself.

World Mediation day encourages people to take a moment for themselves and swap the busy nature of daily life for a journey within. In addition, it nicely coincides with the easing of our long-time Covid 19 lockdown restrictions.

May 17th in the UK really does herald a step into a new era.  June 21st will hopefully reinforce this when we can literally go about our business albeit sensibly. As Covid will still be here and isn’t going away something soon.  What we do know is each date marks our hopefully one-way re-entry steps into ‘normal’ life.

Moreover, Meditation Day is a much-needed reminder to take a moment of quiet and calm amidst the excitement (and for many, anxiety, pain, worry and grief) of a more fast-paced lifestyle.

What can we use to help us relax on World Meditation Day

That said, for many meditating is easier said than done. I personally find it really hard not to be distracted, to calm my mind. But thankfully today there are lots of apps free and who charge.  They can really help those who struggle to switch off.  Headspace and Calm are partly free, Smiling Mind, Zen and Oak are good too.  And they all promote total disconnection from day-to-day stresses and busy thoughts.

There are also the fabulous Luna Eyes Self-Heating Sleep Mask which have been designed to help you naturally drift off into a deeply relaxing slumber. What I love about them is that each individual foil-wrapped eye mask holds its heat for approximately 25 minutes. And what’s more each pack includes 85-minutes of FREE Crystal Sound Healing music to enhance the pampering experience and help rebalance chakras.  I use them and am a huge fan.  The truly help aid evening relaxation and meditation.  Plus, in many cases, people find they help improve your sleep too.  Simple deep breathing exercises also help calm and relax.

What is hugely worrying is that we need to step away from our digital devices in the evenings.  But most of us can’t. We ignore or pretend to forget that constant use leads to insomnia, anxiety and depression.  Hard facts but asking us to step away is an equally hard ask. I for one am 100% guilty of this.  I’m constantly checking emails, news, playing solitaire and sneaking a peek at Insta and FB. And Twitter and LinkedIn.  As I write this it is becoming increasingly apparent that I need to do this as much as you do.  We really do need step away from all things digital and refocus.  Our minds require relaxing now more than ever.

There are so interesting possibilities out there and we can do something. Being mindful of what we do to relax and heal.  Make sure we are eating healthier, going for walks, taking up a calming pastime, giving ourselves some self-love.
