About Sarah Webb Gosling
Sarah Gosling OBE is one of Britain’s most accomplished sailors, winning five major championship gold medals throughout an extraordinary career, including two Olympic gold medals, two World Championship titles and a European Championship victory.
A popular, warm and authentic personality, Sarah combines elite sporting achievement with practical insight into leadership, resilience and high performance. Having competed in one of Team GB’s most successful sporting programmes, she understands what it takes to perform under pressure, overcome setbacks, adapt to change and maintain focus in pursuit of ambitious goals. Sarah’s sailing journey began at just six years old in an Optimist dinghy before progressing to represent Great Britain twice at the Youth World Championships in the Laser Radial class. Turning professional in 1997, she competed in the Women’s 470 Olympic Class, reaching a world ranking of seventh in 1999.
Following a short period working in contract management for BP, where she gained valuable commercial and corporate experience managing outsourced services, Sarah returned to elite sailing with renewed focus. During this time, she also competed in Match Racing with British and international teams based in the USA, further broadening her experience of team dynamics and competition.
In 2003, Sarah was headhunted to join a British Yngling Team alongside Shirley Robertson and Sarah Ayton in the women’s triple-handed Olympic class. Famously dubbed ‘The Three Blondes in a Boat’, the team represented Great Britain at the Athens Olympics in 2004, securing Britain’s first gold medal of the Games.
Determined to build on that success, Sarah formed a new Yngling campaign with Sarah Ayton, later joined by Pippa Wilson. Their consistency and success saw podium finishes throughout 2007, culminating in World Championship gold and victory at the Pre-Olympic regatta in China, earning selection for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. There, Sarah and her teammates achieved their ultimate ambition, winning a second Olympic gold medal and helping Team GB secure one of its most successful Olympic performances in history.
Since retiring from elite competition, Sarah has continued to share her expertise through speaking engagements, drawing on her experiences of leadership, pressure, teamwork and sustaining motivation.
