Ricky Nuttall

Ricky Nuttall is a former London firefighter, mental health advocate, motivational speaker and published poet who delivers deeply personal and impactful talks on resilience, trauma, recovery and wellbeing. Drawing on his own extraordinary experiences, Ricky speaks with honesty and authenticity, helping audiences better understand mental health, vulnerability and the strength that can be found in opening up.

After realising his childhood dream of joining the London Fire Brigade, Ricky spent nearly two decades serving on the frontline, supporting people through some of the worst moments of their lives. In 2017, he was one of the first responders at the Grenfell Tower fire — an experience that profoundly changed the course of his life. In the aftermath, Ricky experienced severe PTSD, depression and suicidal thoughts, later describing the overwhelming sadness and emotional numbness that followed.

Writing poetry became a lifeline during his recovery and eventually gave him the confidence to begin sharing his story publicly. A clip of Ricky speaking openly about mental health later went viral, reaching more than 250 million views worldwide and leading to appearances on BBC Breakfast, This Morning and SAS: Who Dares Wins. He has since become a published poet and award-nominated screenwriter, using storytelling as a way to break down stigma around mental health.

Today, through his platform Just Rick, Ricky delivers powerful talks to schools, emergency services, prisons, charities and corporate organisations. Whether speaking about trauma, workplace wellbeing, addiction, resilience or overcoming adversity, Ricky creates an environment where difficult conversations feel approachable and real. His talks are emotional, inspiring and thought-provoking, leaving audiences with a greater understanding of mental health and the importance of human connection and support.
