About Michael Johnson
Widely regarded as the greatest 200m and 400m sprinter of all time, Michael Johnson redefined what was possible in athletics. During an extraordinary career spanning more than a decade, he won four Olympic gold medals, nine World Championship titles and amassed 19 major international gold medals without ever winning a silver or bronze.
Michael made history as the first man to win both the 200m and 400m at the same Olympic Games, achieving the iconic double at Atlanta 1996. He also held world records in both events and became known worldwide for his consistency, discipline and ability to deliver under the highest levels of pressure.
Since retiring from competition, Michael has successfully transferred the mindset and principles that drove his sporting success into business, leadership and performance development. Through Michael Johnson Performance and the Michael Johnson Young Leaders programme, he has worked with elite athletes, sports organisations and young people around the world, helping them maximise potential and overcome challenges.
Alongside his work as an entrepreneur and mentor, Michael is a respected television commentator, regularly appearing on BBC Sport’s coverage of major athletics events. He is also the author of Slaying the Dragon, in which he shares his personal blueprint for turning setbacks into success.
