About Dr Anita Mitra

During her time working in hospitals, Dr Anita Mitra recognised the many myths and misconceptions surrounding Women’s Health, often made worse by misinformation online. This inspired her mission to educate and empower women, providing reliable, engaging healthcare information.

Dr Anita Mitra studied Medical Biochemistry at the University of Leicester, graduating in 2006 with a first-class honours degree, before going on to study medicine and qualifying as a doctor in 2011. She began her specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (O&G) in London in 2013.

Her clinical focus is on gynaecological cancers, and she was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London in 2018 for her research into cervical cancer and the vaginal microbiome.

Dr Anita is an internationally recognised expert in the vaginal microbiome and is regularly invited to present her research as a keynote speaker across Europe and America, while continuing to work full-time as an NHS doctor.

Through her platform ‘The Gynae Geek’ (150k+ Instagram followers), Dr Anita reaches a wide audience, making complex health topics accessible. She contributes to publications including Women’s Health, Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire, and has appeared on ITV’s This Morning and BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. Her book, The Gynae Geek: Your No-Nonsense Guide To Down-There Healthcare, was published in 2019.

Dr Anita is currently undertaking a fellowship in advanced gynaecological cancer surgery and remains actively involved in treating conditions such as fibroids, PCOS, endometriosis and adenomyosis.
