World-record setting yachtswoman Dee Caffari MBE is the only woman to have sailed solo non-stop around the world – both the wrong way (against the tides and prevailing winds) and the ‘right’ way. Dee has now sailed around the world a total of six times. Without doubt, one of Britain’s most inspirational women, Dee is an acclaimed international speaker. Dee Caffari MBE is one of Britain’s most inspirational adventurers, the first and only woman to have sailed solo, non-stop around the world both ways. Her groundbreaking 2006 voyage saw her circumnavigate the globe “the wrong way” against prevailing winds and currents, securing her place in the record books. Not stopping there, she went on to complete the gruelling Vendée Globe in 2008/09, dubbed The Everest of the Seas, and later the Barcelona World Race, becoming the only woman to have sailed non-stop around the world three times.
Dee has sailed around the planet six times, holding multiple world-firsts and speed records. Her current challenge is co-skippering The Famous Project, an all-woman crew aiming to win the Jules Verne Trophy in 2025 for the fastest circumnavigation of the globe. No woman has yet achieved this feat.
A natural leader, Dee has skippered diverse, international teams in some of the world’s toughest ocean races, including the Volvo Ocean Race 2017/18. Her Turn the Tide on Plastic campaign championed the UN Environment Clean Seas initiative, tackling ocean plastic pollution while promoting gender equality and inspiring the next generation.
Beyond the helm, Dee is Chair of the World Sailing Trust, driving sustainability, diversity, and inclusion across the sport. Awarded an MBE and appointed Honorary Commander in the Royal Navy, she is celebrated for her service to Britain’s maritime heritage and her charitable work.
