David Mitchell
If you are looking for wit, originality and continuous laughter, then Chester’s Town Crier, David Mitchell, is the man for you. David is an award winning speaker on the luncheon club and after dinner circuit, having professionally entertained hundreds of audiences.
About David Mitchell
David Mitchell in addition to being the Town Crier to Chester which is the only place in the world to have retained the tradition of regular midday proclamations is a brilliant and very witty speaker. David has made many appearances on TV and radio. He was also the Town Crier in two full-length films – ‘Moll Flanders’ with Alex Kingston and ‘24 Hour Party People’ with Steve Coogan.
Chester’s Town Crier, David Mitchell, has consistently delighted audiences with his blend of wit, anecdote and quirky history. His splendid regency costume adds an element of visual delight, and all of his material is scrupulously in good taste. Some extracts from a bulging file of testimonials give a flavour of the impact he makes.
David also presents a one-man show, entitled ‘For Crying Out Loud!’, which he has performed at theatres in Eastbourne and Epsom as well as in his home city of Chester. This is believed to be the first time a town crier has ever done a one-man show.
David has hosted four World Town Crier Tournaments in Chester. As a competitor David was placed third in the 1999 World Championship on Vancouver Island, Canada, and in 2008 in Alnwick David became British Champion.
David’s contribution to Chester and Cheshire was recognised when he was made the first-ever recipient of the Chester Chronicle’s ‘Pride of Cheshire’ Award, as voted for by readers.
But David’s favourite role is that of After Dinner Speaker, when he has the opportunity to share with a new audience the delights, surprises and laughter of this quintessentially British tradition.
