About Clive Coleman

For a decade, Clive served as the BBC’s Legal Correspondent, reporting on some of the most significant legal and political developments of the modern era. During this time he covered major court cases and national stories across the BBC’s news output, earning multiple journalism awards for his clarity, insight and ability to translate complex legal issues into compelling, accessible narratives. Alongside his reporting, he has presented BBC programmes including Panorama on BBC One and the long-running legal affairs programme Law in Action on Radio 4.

Before entering journalism, Clive practised as a barrister, an experience that continues to shape his unique perspective as a speaker and interviewer. His background enables him to unpack complex topics — from justice and media ethics to politics and public accountability — in ways that are both authoritative and highly engaging for audiences.

Alongside his broadcasting career, Clive has built an impressive reputation as a writer for film, television and theatre. He co-wrote the acclaimed feature film The Duke, starring Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and received widespread critical praise, including five-star reviews from The Guardian, The Telegraph and The Mail. Critics hailed the screenplay as “beautifully scripted” and full of vibrant character, capturing the spirit of classic British storytelling.

Clive has also collaborated with celebrated playwright Richard Bean on several major theatrical productions. Their work includes Young Marx, directed by Nicholas Hytner and staged at London’s Bridge Theatre, praised by The Times as “a delicious blend of braininess and bounce”. The pair also worked together on the National Theatre’s hit production Great Britain, starring Billie Piper.

His television writing credits span both comedy and drama, including work on The Bill, Spitting Image, Dead Ringer and BBC Radio 4 productions such as Chambers. His sharp comedic voice was recognised early in his career when he received the inaugural Frank Muir Award for Outstanding Comedy Writing.

As a speaker, interviewer and moderator, Clive Coleman combines journalistic rigour, legal insight and a natural storyteller’s flair. Whether delivering a keynote on the intersection of law, politics and media, hosting a discussion or leading a panel, he brings intelligence, wit and a deep understanding of the issues shaping modern society — ensuring audiences leave both informed and thoroughly engaged.
