Anna Watkins MBE

Anna began rowing while studying at the University of Cambridge, where her talent was quickly recognised. Within just two years she was selected for the national squad and went on to win her first major international competition at the World Under 23 Regatta. Her rapid rise saw her promoted to the senior international team, launching a highly successful professional career.

In 2008, rowing alongside Elise Laverick, Anna won bronze at both the World Championships and the Beijing Olympics, despite battling glandular fever during a challenging season. The following year, she claimed silver at the World Championships — a pivotal moment that led her to partner with Katherine Grainger, one of the most decorated rowers in history.

Together, Anna and Katherine won two World Championship titles before heading into the London 2012 Olympics under immense pressure. With Katherine having previously won three Olympic silvers, expectations were at their highest. In a remarkable performance, the pair delivered when it mattered most — winning Olympic Gold and setting a new Olympic record, securing their place in sporting legend.

Alongside her athletic success, Anna brings exceptional academic credibility.
