About Angie Belcher

For more than fifteen years, Angie has focused her work on the link between humour and healing. Her internationally recognised Comedy On Referral programme made global headlines as the first NHS-backed initiative to use stand-up comedy workshops to support people recovering from trauma. She was subsequently commissioned to deliver comedy-based projects for men at risk of suicide through Rethink Mental Illness, cementing her reputation as a true innovator in applied creative therapy.

With 20 years’ experience creating, directing and presenting shows, Angie has worked with an impressively diverse client base. She has delivered programmes for national NGOs, lectured for D&AD, and worked with organisations including BBC, The Prince’s Trust, Capita and WISH London. A natural communicator, she is also a regular compere of Glastonbury Festival’s Cabaret Tent, where her warmth, spontaneity and razor-sharp wit shine on stage.

As a performer, Angie has achieved widespread critical acclaim. Her show “Mythical Creature” won North East Theatre Guide’s Best Show at the Edinburgh Festival, and she placed third in What The Frock’s Best UK Comedy Newcomer competition. She stars in the Midlands horror-comedy Crispy’s Curse on Amazon Prime, and continues to write and perform original comedic work.

Angie is also a prolific writer and creative director. She produced and directed The Bristol Comedy History Walk, created flash-theatre pieces for the Bristol Shakespeare Festival, and writes site-specific monologues for public spaces. Her four-part comedy drama “My Funny Valentine” aired on Radio 4, and she has been a finalist in the Sit-Com Trials for new writers. Corporate clients frequently commission her for bespoke comedic content, from creative odes to viral campaigns — and she even wrote the official welcome-home poem for Olympic gold medallist Amy Williams.

A proud graduate of the Institute for the Development of Human Potential, Angie holds a postgraduate diploma in Humanistic Psychology for Leadership, Facilitation and Coaching. She teaches masterclasses in expert communication, negotiation and confidence, delivering training everywhere from Category A prisons to corporate boardrooms.

Angie leads stand-up comedy for Circomedia’s BA in Contemporary Performing Arts, is Writer in Residence at First Story, Associate Lecturer in Comedy Writing at the University of Worcester, and Comedian in Academic Residence at the University of Bristol. She also runs innovative arts-and-health projects, including AFTERMIRTH (comedy for new parents) and ELDERMIRTH (comedy for care homes).

In 2022, Bristol Live named Angie the city’s 2nd most influential woman for her pioneering work in comedy and health — a testament to her impact, creativity and dedication.

Comedy Courses & Corporate Communication Training

Angie’s corporate comedy workshops blend humour, confidence-building and personal development to help people reach their full potential in public speaking. Drawing on her experience as an award-winning comedian and respected corporate trainer, she teaches individuals to feel comfortable being confident, passionate and authentic when networking or presenting.

She has worked with TED speakers, CEOs of national charities, and well-known TV presenters, helping them speak with both gravitas and humour. In corporate settings, these workshops help teams reignite their enthusiasm for talking about what they do, providing practical tools for managing nerves and speaking with clarity and personality. Delegates discover their personal brand in a fresh, engaging way and learn how to give their communication style real distinction and memorability.

Angie also specialises in creating tailored communication training that helps people bring their unique personality and confidence into everyday interactions at work. Her courses inspire individuals to become better, more assured communicators, offering fun, practical guidance that leaves participants with a newfound enjoyment of talking about their company — and themselves.

Testimonials

"I've worked with Angie on several occasions and found her to be incredibly insightful, wonderfully inventive, and full of creativity for the projects I've asked her to be involved with. She's got a perfect comedy voice, which she uses to hone and develop the voices of others - her comedy courses are full of fun and clever ways of encouraging and supporting her students to achieve this goal. It's a rare gift to be able to translate lessons via comedy, in a unique way, and yet Angie is also brilliant at being part of a team and can be equally adept at leading from the front or supporting from behind. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her as a comedian, educator, supporter, and as a person."

Barnaby Eaton-Jones - Creative Director, Spiteful Puppet and Chinbeard Books

"Angie is a very supportive and creatively minded individual. She is innovative in her thinking and is always devising new initiatives to incentivise students. Everything she does is student centric and she has outstanding subject area knowledge. She is at ease working within a team and thrives on new challenges and taking on a leadership role. I could not recommend Angie highly enough."

Mark Holloway - University of Worcester

"Angie has a vast amount of experience in using her skills and research in the field of comedy to become a noteworthy coach and a ‘go to’ for many of us in the comedy sector. As an artist she is hugely accomplished and has honed her skills of teaching and coaching across such a broad range of clients, students and other artists that she is able to work astutely and intuitively."
