About Vassos Alexander
Vassos Alexander is one of the UK’s best-loved sports broadcasters, famous for waking up millions on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show for 14 years and for his long-standing work across BBC Radio and BBC Television. He has covered many of the world’s biggest sporting events, including the Olympics, The Ashes, Wimbledon, the World Cup, The Open, and the World Darts Championship, earning a reputation for his energy, clarity and infectious enthusiasm.
But Vassos doesn’t just talk about elite sport, he lives it. A hugely experienced endurance athlete, he has completed more than 100 marathons and ultra-races, including the iconic 153-mile Spartathlon, the South Downs Way 100, multiple Ironman triathlons, and a sub-three-hour marathon. His daily 11-mile London commute often doubles as part of his training, and his recent passion for open-water swimming has seen him prepare for a solo Channel swim.
Vassos is also the author of four acclaimed books. His debut Don’t Stop Me Now charts his transformation from reluctant jogger to marathon obsessive; Running Up That Hill explores the wild world of ultra-running; How to Run a Marathon offers motivation and practical wisdom for runners of all levels; and his latest book Swimmingly (Bloomsbury, 2025) celebrates cold-water and wild swimming, charting his journey from Thames dips to long-distance challenges.
A warm and charismatic event host, awards presenter and after-dinner speaker, Vassos is known for blending humour, heart and inspiring real-life stories. In 2024 he became an ambassador for the Personal Best Foundation, supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through sport.
Based in southwest London with his wife and three children, Vassos spends his time between the studio, the trails and the water, always chasing the next challenge with the same energy he brings to every broadcast and every stage.
