About Rageh Omaar
Rageh Omaar is one of the UK’s most respected journalists and broadcasters, best known for his reporting from the front line of some of the most important global events of the past three decades. As International Affairs Editor for ITV News and presenter of ITV’s current affairs programme On Assignment, he continues to provide audiences with expert analysis of the world’s most pressing political and social issues.
Rageh first came to international prominence during the Iraq War, reporting live from Baghdad as events unfolded in 2003. His coverage earned widespread acclaim and established him as one of the leading foreign correspondents of his generation. Throughout his career, he has reported from conflict zones and major global events across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe, earning numerous accolades including a Peabody Award and a BAFTA as part of the BBC’s award-winning international news coverage.
Following a successful career at the BBC, Rageh joined Al Jazeera English at its launch, presenting the acclaimed documentary programmes Witness and The Rageh Omaar Report, before returning to mainstream UK broadcasting with ITV News.
Born in Somalia and educated in the UK, including at Oxford University, Rageh brings a unique international perspective to his work.
