About Dr Anita Mitra

Dr Anita Mitra, during her time working in hospitals, realised there were so many myths & misconceptions about Women’s Health, often exacerbated and complicated by inaccurate information & false claims online. This propelled Dr Anita on her mission to dispel some of these myths, and she embarked on her journey provide reliable yet engaging healthcare information, educate and empower women about how their bodies work & cut through the nonsense about Women’s health.

Biography

Dr Anita Mitra, prior to her career as a doctor, studied Medical Biochemistry at the University of Leicester, graduating in 2006 with a first-class honours degree. She worked as a researcher in clinical laboratories both in the UK & Norway. Subsequently, she went on to study medicine at the University of Leicester and qualified as a doctor in 2011. It was towards the end of her time at medical school that Anita developed a passion for Women’s health. She started her specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (O&G) in London in 2013.

Dr Anita’s area of clinical interest is in gynaecological cancers, and she was awarded her PhD from Imperial College London in 2018 for her research into cervical cancer & the vaginal microbiome.

Having published her research in clinical & scientific journals, Dr Anita is an internationally renowned expert in the vaginal microbiome and is often invited to present her research & as a keynote speaker at various learned societies in Europe & America. She also continues to work full-time as a doctor in the NHS.

Dr Anita Mitra has a huge online presence via her platform ‘The Gynae Geek’ which has over 150k Instagram followers. She is a popular speaker at Wellness events & regularly features as a guest on popular podcasts. Dr Anita also writes for magazines including Women’s Health, Cosmopolitan & Marie Claire, as well as appearing on TV shows such as ITV This Morning & radio shows including Radio 4 Women’s Hour. In 2019, her first book ‘The Gynae Geek: Your No-Nonsense Guide To Down-There Healthcare’ was published by Harper Collins.

Dr Anita is currently undertaking a fellowship to become a specialist in advanced gynaecological cancer surgery, and remains actively involved in the management of benign gynaecological conditions such as fibroids, PCOS, endometriosis & adenomyosis.
