Henry Blofeld

Henry Blofeld is a broadcaster, writer and after-dinner speaker best known for his distinctive voice and long association with BBC Radio’s Test Match Special. Affectionately known as “Blowers”, Henry spent more than four decades commentating on cricket around the world and became one of the sport’s most recognisable and entertaining voices.

A talented cricketer in his youth, Henry scored centuries at Lord’s for both school and Cambridge University before moving into journalism and broadcasting. He began writing for national newspapers including The Times, The Guardian, The Observer and The Daily Telegraph before joining the BBC commentary team in the 1960s. He remained part of Test Match Special until his retirement in 2017.

Alongside cricket, Henry has become known for his extraordinary stories and adventures, including driving from London to Bombay in a 1921 Rolls Royce in 1976 and appearing in the television series The Real Marigold Hotel in India.

Henry has also written more than twenty books and continues to tour the UK with his live theatre and after-dinner shows, including My Dear Old Things. As a speaker, he is known for his storytelling, humour and reflections on cricket, broadcasting, travel and a lifetime of memorable experiences.
