About Steph McGovern

Following a successful career behind the scenes as lead producer of financial news at the BBC, Steph McGovern moved in front of the camera during one of the most significant periods in modern economic history, working alongside Robert Peston during the credit crunch and banking crisis. She later became a familiar face across BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 2 before joining BBC Breakfast as one of its lead business presenters.

Over the course of her broadcasting career, Steph has reported live from more than 500 businesses across the UK, covering everything from manufacturing and retail to major corporate and economic developments. Her approachable style and ability to translate complex issues into clear, engaging conversations led to the launch of Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch, where she combined current affairs, business, consumer stories and entertainment in a live daily format.

Alongside her journalism and presenting work, Steph has fronted a range of factual and entertainment programmes including Pocket Money Pitch, helping young entrepreneurs develop business ideas, Made in Great Britain, exploring the industries and craftsmanship that shaped Britain, and consumer favourites Shop Well for Less and Watchdog. She also co-presented Easy Ways to Live Well with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

Outside broadcasting, Steph remains actively involved in mentoring and education initiatives, particularly across the North East, and is a patron of the charity Rubies supporting disadvantaged children.
