About Nihal Arthanayake

In 2002, Nihal joined BBC Radio 1, co-hosting Asian Beats with Bobby Friction, which won a Sony Radio Award. He went on to host BBC Radio 1’s Review with Nihal—winning Best Radio Show at the UK Asian Music Awards—and now fronts a Sunday evening show on BBC Radio 5 Live. His TV credits include The Drop on MTV Base, Desi DNA on BBC2, and Celebrity MasterChef.

Nihal is the author of the award-winning book Let’s Talk: How to Have Better Conversations. A blend of practical advice, personal anecdotes, and expert insights, the book explores how meaningful dialogue can bridge divides and improve relationships in both personal and professional contexts. Drawing on his reputation as one of the UK’s best conversationalists, Nihal delves into the psychology of communication and provides readers with a toolkit for having better conversations with anyone, anytime.

An advocate for diversity, Nihal has advised the BBC, spoken at the Oxford Media Convention, and challenged organisations to embrace diverse thinking. He has hosted events for major brands like Adobe, Google, and Hugo Boss, showcasing his ability to connect with any audience. A trustee of HOME Manchester and an ambassador for the Prince’s British Asian Trust, Nihal continues to inspire with his thought leadership and dynamic approach to media and events.
