Joe Swift
Joe Swift is a gold medal winning garden designer and presenter of BBC2's flagship gardening show, 'Gardeners' World'. He also appears in the BBC's coverage of Chelsea, Hampton Court, Blenheim and Tatton Flower shows. Joe regularly gives talks on garden design, hosts awards ceremonies and gives after dinner speeches.
About Joe Swift
Joe Swift has also toured with his one man show ‘A Man about the Garden’ World Tour. Like his speeches his show was a light-hearted delivery peppered with his Rock and Roll youth, behind the scenes of Gardening TV and just what it takes to win a Chelsea Gold.
Joe Swift has been gardening since he left school and is a fully trained garden designer. After leaving school Joe went to Art College and played bass in a band. He then travelled and worked abroad and upon his return started landscaping in North London. Furthermore he also lived in Australia for a year landscaping in Sydney and Melbourne. He studied garden design at The English Gardening School based at the Chelsea Physic Garden in 1990 whilst simultaneously setting up a landscaping company.
Joe’s media career started in 1998 when he started presenting on BBC Gardeners World and is currently part of the 2017 presenting team alongside Monty Don and Carol Klein. He has been a co-anchor of The RHS Chelsea flower show since 2001 and a regular on the BBC coverage of Hampton Court, Tatton Park and Malvern flower shows. Over the years Joe has presented many other programmes including ‘Small Town Gardens’, ‘Garden Makers’, ‘Open Gardens’, ‘The Flower Pot Gang’ with Anneka Rice and Phil Tufnell for BBC1 and ‘The Great Chelsea Garden Challenge’ as presenter and mentor. He has also been a guest on other random programmes including Celebrity Bake Off and Masterchef.
He started presenting Gardeners World in 1998 and now designs gardens, presents on TV and writes. Joe is a father, a lifelong Arsenal fan, and is a keen but very average golfer.
A regular presenter of BBC2’s flagship gardening show, ‘Gardeners’ World’ he also appears in the BBC’s coverage of Chelsea, Hampton Court, Blenheim and Tatton Flower shows. Joe has fronted ‘Open Gardens’, ‘Small Town Gardens’ and ‘Garden Invaders’ all for the BBC. In addition he has been involved in the design of many gardens including the water garden at Kings Heath & The Bournville Garden. His book ‘The Plant Room’ was published in March 2001. He also writes for the ‘Sunday Times’ and ‘Gardeners’ World Magazine’.
Joe is the design director at Modular Garden a garden design and build brand.
