About Jill Scott MBE
Jill Scott MBE is one of the most respected and recognisable figures in women’s football, with a career that spans over 16 years at the very top of the game. Born and raised in Tyne and Wear, Jill was a talented long-distance runner and footballer from a young age. After winning the North of England Under-13 cross-country title and the Junior Great North Run, she chose to focus on football, a decision that paved the way for a remarkable journey in sport.
Jill began her senior career with Sunderland Women while studying Sport and Exercise Science, first at Gateshead College and then at Loughborough University. By 18, she had already made her mark, winning the Women’s Player of the Month award in October 2005 for standout performances with both club and country.
Her move to Everton Women in 2006 saw her pick up the FA Tesco Players’ Player of the Year award and contribute to the team’s victories in both the FA Women’s Premier League Cup and the FA Women’s Cup. In 2013, she signed with Manchester City, playing a pivotal role in securing the 2014 Continental Cup and later combining her playing career with coaching responsibilities.
Internationally, Jill earned over 150 caps for England after receiving her first senior call-up in 2006. She was a key player in numerous major tournaments, famously scoring the decisive goal in the semi-final of the 2009 UEFA Women’s European Championships. In 2022, she was part of the iconic Lionesses squad that lifted the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 trophy – a moment that inspired the nation.
Off the pitch, Jill’s popularity soared when she was crowned Queen of the Jungle in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here 2022. Since retiring from football, she’s become a familiar face on TV screens, appearing as a pundit on ITV Sport, captaining the Blue Team on A League of Their Own, and joining football legends on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast.
Awarded an MBE in the 2020 New Year Honours for her services to women’s football, Jill is an accomplished and engaging public speaker. She brings warmth, humour, and inspiration to every event , sharing stories of leadership, resilience, and teamwork from both her sporting and broadcasting careers.
Outside of football, Jill will be seen drinking flat whites in her Coffee shop in Manchester which she runs with her partner.
