About David Harper
David’s fascination with antiques began at an early age. As a child he spent hours searching freshly ploughed fields for fragments of pottery and historical artefacts, while building collections of worn coins and stamps. By the age of nine he had already purchased his first antique, marking the beginning of what would become a lifelong career in the industry.
At just eighteen years old David began working full-time in the art, antiques and classic car business. His knowledge and enthusiasm quickly earned him a strong reputation within the industry and by the age of twenty-three he had already made a significant mark, becoming one of the youngest directors of a UK PLC company. In this role he helped oversee the import of antique-style furniture from the Far East, gaining valuable experience in international trade and the global antiques market.
Over the years David has built an impressive and varied career. He has shipped antiques between Europe and the United States, owned and operated antiques restoration businesses and exhibited at leading international art and antiques fairs. He has also brokered the sale of numerous valuable collections and continues to assist clients in sourcing and selling antiques and classic cars.
Alongside his work in the antiques world, David has developed a successful career in television and live events. His warm personality, deep knowledge and natural storytelling ability have made him a popular figure with audiences who enjoy his insights into the history, craftsmanship and hidden stories behind antique objects.
In addition to his work as an antiques expert, David is also an accomplished artist. After many years studying art and artists from different periods, he began painting himself in 2008. His work quickly attracted attention and in 2012 an art dealer discovered his paintings and began representing his work. Today his artwork is held in private collections around the world, including museums.
As a speaker, David Harper delivers entertaining and engaging talks on antiques, collecting and the fascinating stories behind historic objects. Blending humour, expertise and personal anecdotes from decades in the trade, he offers audiences a captivating journey through the worlds of art, antiques and classic cars.
