About April Dawn

As a proactive leader with over 25 years’ experience April has tirelessly worked with women and vulnerable groups responding to issues relating to race and culture. She is an excellent communicator and team builder driven to finding solutions to issues that impact Black women. As Director of Creating Equalz, a non-profit organisation April has developed programmes including Lightening the Load, Talking Abuse & Cultural Trauma (TACT) and led on many online webinars about the stereotypes of Black women in British society that impacts their experiences in the workplace, health settings, education and wider institutions.

April is living with alopecia areata which again brings to the fore her own personal experience of dealing with trauma. Creating Loving Alopecia, she speaks about how to build self esteem and confidence as a bald Black woman in a society where hair is considered a symbol of a woman’s beauty. It is here, where April is steadfast in her belief that women should embrace their natural beauty. April has been featured in Cosmopolitan, Made in Chelsea and Refinery29 and numerous BBC radio stations.

Being both creative and innovative, April utilises her skills as a community radio presenter hosting the Women with Soul Show and then In Conversation with AprilsDawn on NLive Radio.  Additionally, April used poetry as an outlet to express the impact that cultural trauma and hair loss had on her as a Black woman.  This resulted in the birth of the “LovePoets “movement, which galvanized the poetry scene in Northamptonshire.

When booking April, you will get a charismatic and confident woman who is authentic about her experiences. even when exploring challenging subjects, empowering those around her to move forward with enhanced self -esteem.
