About April Dawn
April Dawn, known for her dynamic leadership, is a force dedicated to empowering Black women and fostering resilience in the face of adversity. With over 25 years of experience, she brings a wealth of knowledge as an empowerment consultant, cultural trauma expert, domestic abuse trainer, community radio presenter, and entrepreneur. As the director of Creating Equalz, a non-profit organization, April spearheads innovative programs like Lightening the Load and Talking Abuse & Cultural Trauma (TACT), along with webinars addressing stereotypes affecting Black women in various sectors. April was recently appointed Head of Culture, Diversity & Inclusion at Eve, a domestic abuse organisation.
April’s personal battle with alopecia areata fuels her mission to boost self-esteem and confidence among bald Black women in a society that often equates beauty with hair. Through her initiative, Loving Alopecia, she advocates for the embrace of natural beauty, inspiring women facing similar challenges. Her authenticity and advocacy have been highlighted in Cosmopolitan, Made in Chelsea, Refinery29, and numerous BBC radio stations.
A creative and innovative radio presenter, April previously hosted the Women with Soul Show and In Conversation with AprilsDawn on NLive Radio, and currently hosts the Free Your Mind Show on Revolution Radio. Her poetic exploration of cultural trauma and hair loss ignited the “LovePoets” movement, revitalizing the poetry scene in Northamptonshire.
